The Aztecs took the ice for a pair of games against the Arizona State Sun Devils at home this past weekend. Despite a pair of goals from Junior Hayden Bolls, with additional helpers from Captain and Senior Vincent Dimaggio the Aztecs fell short in game one. Saturday a refocused group came out flying with a 4-0 first period explosion of goals en route to an 8-4 victory. The line of sophomore Aaron Mayer, seniors Anthony Mata and Brandon Vara lead the way with 4 goals and 9 assists. Mata and Vara each collecting a pair of goals while Vara and Mayer each had 4 assists. For assistant captain Vara, who had been battling stiffness for most of the season after a late hit in the Aztecs first weekend versus UNLV, said afterwards that "it was the first time all season that I could move freely with no pain". Vara collected a team and season high 6pts in the victory.
The Aztecs have a bit of a break before taking on Western Conference rival Loyola Marymount University on the 11th of Novermber.
